Pakistan. Ashif Ali Zardari has been elected as the 14th President of Pakistan. The 68-year-old Zardari was elected president for the second term in the election held on Saturday. He defeated Mahmud Khan Achakzai and became the president.
Zardari was supported by the ruling parties Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Zardari previously served as president from 2008 to 2013.
Zardari is the husband of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benozir Bhutto. Benozir was killed on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi.
